Who Says Penalty Cost UW the Game?

Much has been said about the celebration call against Washington’s Jake Locker, last week. The gist has been that the officials over-reacted when they blew the whistle, thus costing Washington a win against BYU.
While the call may have been extreme, it didn’t cost Washington much of anything. Getting a PAT blocked did. Yes, the penalty moved the Huskies back, so they had to make a 35-yard PAT attempt, but that’s still a chip-shot kick.
Had Washington made the kick, the call on Locker would have been rendered insignificant.
Presuming the call cost Washington the game is presuming the Huskies would have made a closer PAT, or that thy would have won in overtime anyway.
That’s a big assumption.
