National interest rising for BYU-Utah game
With Utah and BYU still undefeated, national interest in the Nov. 22 game at Rice-Eccles is building.
One source at the U. says ESPN radio has put out feelers, inquiring about the national radio broadcast rights to the game. There are also rumors ESPN-TV’s “College Game Day” could be staged in Salt Lake, even though The Mtn is scheduled to air the actual game

Despite an announced sellout crowd for Thursday’s Oregon State-Utah game, there were maybe 1,000 empty seats scattered throughout. They were sold, but not occupied. One company had purchased 1,000 tickets but turned them back. Fortunately for the Utes, enthusiasm was high enough for them to re-sell the tickets

He hangs passes in the air, waits too long to get them off. But whatever it is, Brian Johnson wins. The Ute quarterback has won 14 of his last 15 games with the team, the only loss being to BYU last year.
HIs passes are sometimes picture perfect, other times he overthrows or underthrows his man badly. But he did prove a point on Thursday against Oregon State: He does have the ability to drive his team down the field in the closing seconds to win a game.

Utah admits it still hasn’t played a complete game. Thursday it was more of the same. The Utes didn’t score in the second half until 1:29 remained. Meanwhile, the defense gave up gainers of 33, 27, 24, 32 and 41 yards. Utah will still need to cut back the big gains by opponents and be more consistent offensively, or it won’t get through the rest of the schedule undefeated.
