As the Worm Turns

And you thought people were panicking over the stock market.
Some BYU fans are acting like they lost their life savings after the Cougar’ defeat at TCU. Meanwhile, Utah fans are enjoying the moment, thanks partly to Utah’s undefeated football season and partly due to BYU’s loss.
But as former USU basketball coach Rod Tueller once said, “That old worm can turn quickly.”
Right now, Utah football coach Kyle Whittingham is on a roll, coming off an appearance on ESPN and receiving a lot of national attention. But remember, he has yet to win a conference championship. This is his fourth season, yet to date he has never won more than five conference games. He has lost at least three conference games in every season.
A couple of losses down the stretch and he’ll be as popular as head lice. That could happen, considering TCU and BYU remain on the schedule.
It’s a thin line between being on top of the world and down in the mud. For fans of either school, maybe the best advice for now is to do like the stock market — just ride it out and hope for the best.
