Having a (near) Riot in the French Quarter
You had to be there.
Or maybe it’s better you weren’t.
Most Ute fans in New Orleans probably checked out the French Quarter this week. On New Year’s Eve it was wall to wall bodies on Bourbon Street. WALL to wall. Soccer riot close. Nightclubs had people body-to-body, as well. It’s not a great combination: blasting music, a lot of alcohol and very little space.
Think Las Vegas Strip, in a third of the space.
The good thing: There was a strong police presence. New Orleans cops patrolled the Quarter on horseback and on foot.
Numerous Ute fans could be seen on the famous street. One was seen being taken off on a paramedic’s board.
A lot of Utah fans said they stopped by Bourbon Street just to say they were there on New Year’s Eve. Then they got out of the crowd and went to their hotel.
A word of advice for any Ute fans who haven’t already discovered this: If it’s a holiday, or Mardis Gras, skip Bourbon Street and check out the small shops, bookstores and restaurants on Chartres, Decateur and Royal. They’re quieter and less crowded.
