BCS formula would have Utes No. 1

In the for-what-it’s-worth department comes this press release filed by some Austin, Texas football fans with too much time on their hands: Utah is the national champion in football.

According to the release (utah2008champs.com), if the BCS computer calculations were employed after the Florida-Oklahoma national championship game, Utah would rank No. 1.

By using the same formula as the BCS does during the regular season, Utah would have edged out Florida for the top spot, 98 to 97.

Six computer rankings, the USA Today Coaches’ Poll and the Harris Poll are used in determining who will play in the national championship game.

“If both USC and LSU can be considered national champions for the 2003 season, why can’t both Utah and Florida share a championship?” says the release.
