Undelivered Mail
Karl Malone made a guest appearance on TNT’s broadcast of the Jazz-Dallas game, Thursday night.
He was in-studio, behind the desk. At times he showed the Malone “gone country” appeal as he joked with former opponent Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson. But all too often it was obvious the Mailman hasn’t done much TV. For instance, the repeated “Lamar Odom. Lamar Odom, that’s all I’m gonna say” references.
He had a few other trite remarks, like when he called the Jazz mascot “my hero.” And when he said, “I just love the way he (Deron Williams) plays” and “let the players decide the game.”
All pretty predictable stuff.
His breakdown of the action wasn’t particularly enlightening, either.
Then there was the open collar western shirt.
Would it kill him to put on a tie?
There is a realness to Malone that can make him appealing, especially in person. But his showing on Thursday lacked polish. Of course, Smith wasn’t impressive when he started in the business, either. (He’s not terribly impressive now.)
Do you think Malone has a future in broadcasting?
