Sportsmanship Lives at Copper Hills
In an era that includes Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez and other assorted cheaters, it’s hard not to get cynical about sports.
And then you hear of something that makes the games seem worthwhile, after all.
Tuesday’s girls’ basketball game at Copper Hills High was a case in point. Grizzlies’ coach Krista Rigley had a traditional senior night ceremony for her players. But then came the surprise part: She also recognized the seniors from visiting Riverton, the Region III champions, by presenting each with a rose. Then she wished the Silverwolves good luck in the state tournament.
As we watch baseball players continually excuse themselves for cheating by saying they didn’t know what they were taking, or were just trying to remain competitive, it’s good to know there are still those who live the ideals of sportsmanship.
It is a lesson the players from both Copper Hills and Riverton will remember long after their final games.
