A Total Brick

For a city that has a LOT of stars, one of the strangest phenomenons of all is that of sports radio personality “Vic the Brick” Jacobs.

The avowed Laker fan shows up at games draped in Laker purple-and-gold robe, hat and other gear.

He was seen before today’s playoff game in full battle regalia, posing for pictures with fans. Therein lies the paradox. In the seats at most games are celebrities like Jack Nicholson, Jack Black, Jane Seymour, Tobey Maguire and Robert Downey Jr.
Tell me again why people are taking pictures of themselves with Vic the Brick?

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems the Jazz’s playoff predicament can fall into the nothing-to-lose category.

They won’t win the series, but they may just play better than we think.

Before practices on Thursday and Friday, they met with the media and seemed laid back and relaxed.Andrei Kirilenko, Deron Williams, Carlos Boozer and others seemed to quite loose. Maybe that’s because they know their season is essentially over. Or maybe they figure the pressure’s off.

In any case, it’s probably not a bad thing.

Getting nervous about playing the Lakers isn’t likely to help.

While most of the Jazz seemed fairly relaxed, this week, Mehmet Okur seemed resigned to the fact his strained hamstring wouldn’t allow him to play today.

He was unusually subdued and somber. During an interview one day, he was asked if he had any “underdog” stories that the Jazz could draw upon.

“No,” he said. That was all. No elaboration whatsoever. He didn’t even smile.

Sort of un-Memo-like.
