Pride Cometh Before the Fall
You can’t say he wasn’t warned.
RSL coach Jason Kreis got fair warning from team owner Dave Checketts back in April, when their club wiped out New England 6-0.
“After the New England game, I called the coach and I said this is where you actually get tested, because a young team will get very comfortable, very fast,” said Checketts. “And I said everything came so easy and so nice, and everyone’s gonna to make you think this is going to be a cakewalk, and how you react afterward to this is going to mean a lot.”
Checketts went on to say that Kreis admitted he had thought of that remark “about a hundred times” since.
RSL is on a seven-game winless streak.
Said Checketts, “It’s just part of the learning.”
RSL’s owner actually seemed encouraged, last weekend, by the fact some of the team’s best players haven’t produce as expected.
“This team is a team that very much can get on a roll,” he said, “because if you look at our record – our best players have not played well. Our best players have not made the contribution we planned on. I’m not going to name names, but we’re not getting it from our best players. They’re all character kids and I know they will turn it on.”
