Good things from a bad situation

Despite the obvious negative things about BYU basketball coach Dave Rose having cancer, some good is coming of it, too.
It has introduced some aspects that can not only help the program but everyone else, too. For example:

1.Civility. I haven’t seen any Internet postings or e-mails that weren’t encouraging – even from Ute fans. I checked with Utefans.net, this morning, and it led with a headline that said, “Best wishes to BYU coach Dave Rose.” Postings at the Deseret News web site were also highly encouraging. That’s a good sign that the bitter rivalry between Utah and BYU hasn’t descended to the point of no return. And a sign that most people still have things in perspective.
2.Normalcy. It was great to hear Rose is going about his business, planning for next year and holding coaching meetings. That not only helps the team, but gives him, and fans, a routine. I’m planning on him directing the team through next season and beyond.
3.Dignity. As far as I can tell, the Rose family has handled all this gracefully and gratefully. It acknowledged the situation and challenges, but remained upbeat. Meanwhile, the Roses were also was quick to thank fans and supporters for their encouragement. It’s a textbook case on how to handle difficult situations with grace.
