Never. Maybe.
Yup. Urban Meyer is in the rumor mill again.
But if you believe him, he’s not going to leave Florida.
The former Ute football coach’s name came up in connection with the Notre Dame job, Monday, when he vehemently denied he was interested in becoming the Irish’s coach. An Alabama columnist recently suggested Meyer might be interested in replacing Charlie Weis. http://www.al.com/sports/press-register/pfinebaum.ssf?/base/sports/1246958154140410.xml&coll=3
But the Florida coach told the Gainesville Sun, “I’m not going to Notre Dame. Ever. I’m going to be the coach at Florida for a long time, as long as they want me.” http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20090713/ARTICLES/907139947/1136?Title=Urban-Meyer-I-m-not-going-to-Notre-Dame-Ever-
Of course, Meyer said fairly similar things at Utah and Bowling Green, if not as adamantly.
It seems unlikely he’d leave perhaps the nation’s top program for the a dispirited Notre Dame.
Still, Larry Brown left a lot of jobs, too.
It doesn’t always have to make sense.
