World Class Surprise

El Salvador beating the U.S. in Saturday’s World Cup Qualifier would be a surprise.
But the biggest surprise might have happened before the game. Prior to the start, thousands of Salvadoran-blue fans showed up. It appeared to be about 35-40 percent of the crowd.
Officials said they thought part of the crowd was Salt Lake residents, others from around the country. When the El Salvador national anthem was played, fans sang the words, loud and long. That initiated a similarly spirited rendition of The Star Spangled Banner.
While the match had a definite international flavor, the BYU-Oklahoma football game wasn’t completely ignored. The TV in the press box was tuned to the football game until the start of the futbol game.
