Ex-Jazz Player On the Air

Former Jazz center Luther Wright was an enigma. And a mess.

He played 92 minutes with the Jazz, before problems with bipolar disorder and other issues cost him his career.

I hadn’t thought about him for awhile, until the other day when I decided to see what he was up to. We reprinted a story in the Deseret News in 2007, detailing Wright’s slide into drugs and homelessness. deseretnews.com

But I was happy to see a June report that said he’s doing better.NJ.com

In fact, he’s doing so well that he is reportedly a weekday co-host on an FM station in New Jersey. That makes sense. When he was still a player, he told me his dream job after his NBA career would be to become a disc jockey.

For the player teammates called “Loobee” and “Lou B. Free,” it’s good to know he finally found something close to his dream.
