Majerusized

Remember when Rick Majerus would complain that his Utah teams were short on athletes? When he lamented they didn’t have much talent or experience?

He’s baaaaack – but at a different location.

Now head coach at Saint Louis University, Majerus apparently hasn’t changed much. At a conference call, Oct. 23, Majerus told media, “it’s a shame we don’t have any juniors or seniors because you want that leadership. Though our future looks good, it’s going to be a tough learning year for us. Hopefully that portends good things for the future.”

Did he really use the word “portends”?

Though he led his teams to 16-15 and 18-14 records in his first two years with the Billikens, that might not happen this time around. His team was picked to finished 12th in the Atlantic 10. I don’t know a lot about that league except to say that if the league name has a “10″ in it, and his team is picked 12th, that’s not a good sign.

Former Ute Alex Jensen remains at SLU as an assistant to Majerus.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Bill McClellan recently extolled the virtues of being a baseball manager.

But he’s not sold on managers wearing uniforms.

“Anybody over 50 looks ludicrous in a baseball uniform,” he wrote. “Other sports do not make their managers or coaches wear uniforms. Perhaps they should. It might be fun to see St. Louis University basketball coach Rick Majerus come running on to the court in shorts.”

Having seen Majerus running in shorts, trust me, it’s not that fun at all.
