Aggie Crowd: Best in the West

I got some e-mail from Aggie fans regarding a column I wrote last week on BYU’s visit to the Spectrum. Some accused me of not knowing that the crowd is always that crazy.

Not true. Having been to the Spectrum often, I know all that. It’s the best basketball crowd in the West.

But it’s even better against BYU. Always has been.

For those who disagree, I’ll only refer you to Aggie coach Stew Morrill. When I asked him if the crowd saves its “A” material for the instate games, he said, “Absolutely. Absolutely. The signs come out, the craziness come out, guy takes off his shirt — it all happens.”

I always expect a great crowd in Logan. I told someone this week that going up there reminds me that college basketball can still be interesting.

But saying the crowd is the same for, say, Boise State as it is for BYU is short-changing the instate interest.

Aggie fans love nothing more than razzing BYU.

Nothing.

And so they pull out all the stops.
