BYU to Pac-10, After All?
I’ve gone on record saying the Pac-10 wouldn’t include BYU in its expansion plans – even though it makes logistical and financial sense.
If that’s the case, and Utah wants in, it would need a partner. That is generally considered to be Colorado. If I were Colorado, I’d jump at the chance; it’s not like it’s making any headway in the Big 12.
At the same time, if Colorado isn’t interested in the Pac-10, or vice versa, who is the conference supposed to take along with Utah? Maybe TCU. Unlikely Boise State. San Diego State would need to win something (wouldn’t it?) in order to be taken seriously.
At least one of my colleagues thinks BYU can still get in. Ray Ratto, of the San Francisco Chronicle, thought so a couple of weeks ago. Check out his column, saying Utah and BYU are the best fits for Pac-10 expansion:
He also seems to think Pac-10 expansion is more likely than not.
Considering the Pac-10′s limited options, are Cougars more in the running than originally thought?
