Time to Put Tavernari incident to Rest
The reprimand issued to New Mexico basketball coach Steve Alford, Monday, has drawn quite a bit of reaction.
For anyone who saw the Youtube replay of the incident, it’s undeniable. Alford did indeed call BYU’s Jonathan Tavernari a swear word.
At the same time, it was also apparent Tavernari involved himself in a mild verbal exchange with Alford during the post-game handshake period.
Whomever is at fault, it’s time to put this thing to rest.
It was only a quick exchange of opinions. Alford may have violated Mountain West Conference rules, but it was still no huge deal. For anyone who has ever played sports, that sort of talk goes back and forth before, during and after almost every game.
Tavernari apologized to Alford and they made up right after the incident. Alford apologized to BYU coach Dave Rose, too.
Time to move on.
These things happen.
In fact, I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t surface, in some form, again when Utah and BYU play Wednesday night.
