Selection Committee is Thankless Work

Now that the Final Four teams have been decided, you figure the Selection Committee’s work is almost done.

Actually, it was done way back on March 14 when the field of 65 was announced.

Utah athletics director Chris Hill spent five years on the committee. This was his first year off the assignment since 2005.

While Hill called it a great experience, he was also adamant that being on the committee wasn’t a deal where you showed up the week of the announcement and stayed a few days in a hotel. Asked what he got paid he said, “The per diem sometimes paid the cab fare.”

Hill said he was constantly on the road, meeting with other committee members to help whittle down the NCAA Tourament field. He says he spent 42 nights a year on the road doing NCAA work, independent of any travel he made on behalf of the Utes.
