A New Urban Outlook?

I’m hoping this has really happened, but I’m not completely buying the idea that Urban Meyer has learned to slow down.

Meyer told The Sporting News at the SEC Media Days, this week, that his priorities have changed since his health-related issues last winter. He said he took vacations, spent time with the family and even considered spiritual matters. Good for him.

These are all things Meyer has always said were priorities. He just didn’t pay all that much attention to them until now.

Now Meyer says his health is back and that he’s learned his lesson. I want to believe that. But knowing how he was at Utah – and everywhere else he’s been – I’m skeptical that this is a long-term behavioral change. An addiction is an addiction, even when it involves work.

Besides, when you play for national titles these days, is there really a place for anything else?

Has the new Urban Meyer has learned from his experience, or in six months will he be back to the old Urban, working too many hours, losing too much sleep and winning too many games?
