Steve Young: I Love the '80s

With all the talk of quarterbacks at BYU, this year, I couldn’t help but reminisce about the glory days.

That somehow led me to this SI.com vault photo of the great Steve Young, back when he was just a happy-go-lucky college football stud.

Ah, the ’80s. Gotta love ‘em. Check out the dude in the background with the Top Siders and no socks. And how about the smitten look on the face of the coed sitting on the floor?

Best of all, the poster in the background that says “Some Bear Over the Rainbow.”

By the way, are the shorts his hairdresser is wearing up to dress code standards? And is that guy in the background holding a set of scriptures?

What do you think Young is saying in the photo?

(a) “And it came to pass…”

(b) “To dream, the impossible dream….”

(c ) “…and then I’m gonna spike the ball to stop the clock, just like this!”

(d) Make sure you save some of the locks for my scrapbook.

(e) To borrow a line from George Bailey: “Well, not just one wish. A whole hat-full, Mary. I know what I’m gonna do tomorrow, and the next day, and the next year, and the year after that. I’m shakin’ the dust of this crummy little town off my feet and I’m gonna see the world. Italy, Greece, the Parthenon, the Colosseum. Then, I’m comin’ back here and go to college and see what they know… And then I’m gonna build things. I’m gonna build airfields, I’m gonna build skyscrapers a hundred stories high, I’m gonna build bridges a mile long…”
