McMahon: Y. needs a No. 1 QB

Don’t count on Jim McMahon’s support for BYU’s two-headed quarterback plan when the Cougars open the season, Saturday at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
McMahon was at Riverside Country Club, Friday, as part of BYU’s quarterback week. The event is to raise athletic endowment funding. McMahon was asked what he thought of the plan to use both Riley Nelson and Jake Heaps against Washington.
“That’s not fun for either quarterback,” said McMahon, recalling when Edwards switched between him and Marc Wilson in 1979. “I know that Marc wasn’t happy. I know I wasn’t happy. It’s a tough thing to do when you’ve got to rely on two guys like that. You’ve got to have a No.1. Then if something happens to him, the other guy plays.”
