Jan Jorgensen's Debut

If you’re a BYU fan, and you’re a mixed martial arts fan, you’re in luck.

Jan Jorgensen, the former BYU defensive lineman and current 1280-The Zone co-host, is fighting former UCLA football player Jerzy Siewierski at the McKay Event Center in Orem, this Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Jorgensen said last week, “I don’t feel a whole lot of butterflies yet, but I’m starting to feel the urgency. I’m training as much as I can, because it’s hard to ever feel ready for your first fight. I’ve never done this before, but I’m sure as the day gets closer, I will start to feel it (nervousness).”

In case you don’t think Jorgensen can survive in a new sport, consider this: This is also his opponent’s first MMA fight.

Don’t worry too much about Utah quarterback Terrance Cain, even if he does return to backup quarterback this weekend.

He should be fine, either way.

As quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson said on Monday, “No matter what happens after football, Terrance Cain will succeed in whatever he does. He’s just that type of person.”

Did you know that former BYU Outland Trophy winner Jason Buck has been seen on the sidelines at Utah practices? That’s because his son, Tyson, is a linebacker for the Utes…Utah linebacker Nai Fotu is the youngest of 12 children…Defensive back Brandon Burton’s father is an engineer and his mother a doctor…Sealver Siliga’s real first name is Tupaimoefitpo?

Having fumbled seven times — losing six — so far this year, the Utes have made ball security a priority.
“Every day, an all day proposition,” said coach Kyle Whittingham, when asked about whether it was a priority.
