(Never) Leaving Las Vegas

His football team might be 3-0, and it might be joining the Pac-10, next year, but I have bad news for Ute coach Kyle Whittingham.

He might still be seeing more of Las Vegas than he wants.

Sorry to bring up old quotes, but remember at the 2005 Emerald Bowl, when Whittingham was asked about playing in San Francisco? He said, “This beats the heck out of Memphis, Tenn., and the best place to see Las Vegas is in your rearview mirror.”

Not so fast.

He already has a chance to see Vegas in the near future, since the Las Vegas Bowl is home to the Pac-10′s fourth- or fifth-place finisher. Now comes news that he could reach Las Vegas another way. ESPN is reporting that Vegas is one of several cities being considered for a Pac-12 championship game.

The way I figure it, Vegas has the Utes coming and going. If they play poorly enough, they’ll end up in the Vegas Bowl as a fifth-place team. If they play well enough, they could end up in Vegas for a conference championship game.

May as well accept the fact Sin City isn’t in his rear view just yet.

FABULOUS LAS VEGAS
