AFA: Too Legit to Quit
In Saturday’s paper I’ll have a column that addresses whether Air Force’s football players actually are smarter, more disciplined and smarter than anyone else.
What I didn’t have was enough space quote everyone I talked on the subject. Ute defensive end Christian Cox is among the believers.
“Just watching film, they are what they say they are. They do run everything exactly perfect,” said Cox. That’s what sets them apart from other teams.”
He went on to say “they’re definitely scrappy.”
“Watching film of that ’08 year against Paul Kruger, Greg Newman and Koa Misi (on Utah’s line) — some of those guys are in the NFL — and they’re (Air Force) moving them back. Those (AFA) guys are strong, and in this game it’s not about necessarily how big and strong you are. It’s about positioning. There are a lot of physics in this game.”
Cox also admitted that some teams over the years have quit on the Utes, but not Air Force.
“Definitely they never quit when they’re down. I said this in the TCU game where they’re down 31-7 in the fourth quarter, they’re still running the same plays, still trying to score touchdowns. They don’t quit. In this season, we’ve seen teams quit on us, but this team just doesn’t quit.”
