Luther Wright's Memory Glitch

I’ve made a few mistakes in things I’ve published. I don’t have that D’oh! moment until, of course, the work is in print and I’m perusing the pages. Then I see the mistake, something I’ve read but overlooked a couple of dozen times.

Still, I don’t think I’ve made any as egregious as the one in Luther Wright’s just-released book, “A Perfect Fit,” published by Simon and Schuster.

In the book, there is a supposed conversation between the Wright and Calvin Duncan as they warm up for the Jazz’s game against the Rockets. Here’s how the book described the scene:

“I noticed the band practicing and I was into music. I was shooting around with one of our guards, Calvin Duncan. Cleveland drafted him the same year as Patrick Ewing, Manute Bol, and Detlef Schrempf. He was traded to Utah the year I got there. We were cool.
“‘Do you think they would mind if I sat in with the band,’” I asked.”
“‘Why not?’ Calvin said. ‘Go ask them if you can.’”

LUTHER WRIGHT

Odd part is that Calvin Duncan never played for the Jazz. He never got traded to the Jazz. In fact, he never played in the NBA.

The other glaring mistake is a caption on a picture featuring Wright’s mother posing with former BYU player Shawn Bradley. But in the caption it identifies him as Dean Bradley.
