More Fredette numbers
It’s been nearly a week, but Jimmer Fredette’s 47-point outburst against Utah still stands some examining.
According to researcher and author Orvill Paller, the most points ever scored in the BYU-Utah series was 60, by Billy McGill on Feb. 24, 1962 in the Joseph Smith Field House in Provo.
Fredette’s 47 is the second-most scored by anyone in the rivalry, making his total was the largest in history by a BYU player against Utah.
Meanwhile, BYU’s 104-79 win was the largest margin ever by a BYU team over a Utah team in Salt Lake.
According to Paller, Fredette’s career 175 points places him sixth in all-time BYU scoring vs. the Utes. Eldon Brinley leads with 210 points — but he played 16 games against Utah, while Fredette has played only seven. Kresimir Cosic is second (seven games) with 186 points. Fredette needs to score 36 points in the next Utah-BYU game to become the Cougars’ all-time leading scorer vs Utah, which — the way things have been going — seems a definite possibility.
Keith Van Horn leads Utes in career scoring against BYU.
