Andre Miller Gets Indignant

Andre Miller is a quiet, pleasant, non-controversial interview.

So what happened this week?

The Blazers’ guard sounded off when he learned teammate LaMarcus Aldridge had been left off the All-Star team, but the Clippers’ Blake Griffin wasn’t.

Miller’s complaint? Too much flash, not enough substance.

“He ain’t made nobody better,” Miller said of Griffin.

He has a point. Exciting as Griffin is, the Clippers are 13th of 15 teams in the West, with a 19-30 record. But Griffin is constantly on the ESPN highlights with his spectacular dunks.

As long as he’s been in the league, Miller knows the inevitable conclusion. The NBA is a business and nothing sells the NBA like spectacular dunks. So they name Griffin to the team. Guys like Miller who have earth-bound, fundamentals-based games are great teammates, but not great TV.

Still, for guys who played for Rick Majerus, it’s all about screening and passing and rebounding and defending. Dunking? That’s for show. Unfortunately for Aldridge and Miller, so is the All-Star Game.
