Jimmer would have been welcome at USU

USU coach Stew Morrill allows that his basketball teams are often “starless,” but points out he has had some exceptions.
For instance, Jaycee Carroll (2005-08), the Aggies’ all-time scoring leader. He also brings up Gary Wilkinson (29th all-time), Spencer Nelson (17th) and Shawn Daniels (18th in rebounding) as players that stood out.
“Give me Jaycee Carroll, I’ll take him every time,” said Morrill. “But I’ve probably had more teams that were more balanced.”
Morrill went on to say he doesn’t prefer one type of team over the other (star-centered or starless), but “I will say that sometimes when you have a real balanced team (like this year), it’s kind of fun, because it’s harder for your opponents to prepare. They’re not able to just dial in on one guy.”
Another point, he says, is when a team relies on one star, there is immense pressure for him to have a big game on certain nights.
“There’s a lot to be said for balance and that’s been the nature of some of our teams,” said Morrill. “But I’ll always take a Jimmer (Fredette, BYU). Somebody gives me a Jimmer, I’ll take him.”
