Jimmer vs. the Utes: A scoring story
BYU’s Jimmer Fredette has reached another milestone — barely.
According to sports researcher Orvill Paller — author of “Instate Wars: Football and Basketball Between Utah State, Utah and BYU” — Fredette’s 23 points against Utah on Saturday tied him for BYU’s all-time leading scorer against the Utes.
Fredette now has 182 career points against Utah, same as Eldon Brinley (1928-31). But while Brinley got his points over a 16-game span, Fredette has played just eight games against the Utes. Devin Durrant — fourth on the all-time list against Utah — scored 168 points in eight games, while Danny Ainge totaled 144 in 10 games.
Top Ute scorer against BYU, according to Paller, is Keith Van Horn, who got 202 points in a nine-game career against the Cougars.
