Irish version of BYUtv
So maybe BYU’s plan isn’t so far out there after all.
Rather, it’s far out ahead.
You’ve heard about the Cougars’ plan to overtake the planet with its BYUtv broadcasts. The basic idea is to reach tens of millions of viewers via its first rate facilities. A home for BYU sports, nobody else’s.
Texas also has a TV network ramping up. Now comes Notre Dame, which is saying an Irish TV network will happen, too.
The hang-up for Notre Dame, though, is the same as for BYU: It has to win. Otherwise, it could be just more programming nobody wants to watch. Still, it does pose interesting possibilities as more schools look into the idea of airing their own games.
By the way, an interesting offshoot of having a private TV network is that it could result in illegal recruiting if the schools aren’t careful. Check out this SI.com column. si.com
