Kemba on Jimmer's defense: Um….

It sounds as though every NBA team Jimmer Fredette visited for was impressed. They said he could really score. Some coaches, like Jazz coach Ty Corbin, said “he’s quicker than I thought.” Others mentioned his passing skills and agility.

And though some teams went out of their way to say Fredette’s defense was underrated, listen to this. After UConn guard Kemba Walker and Fredette worked out for the Jazz on Wednesday, Walker was asked about Fredette’s defense.

“Pretty good, pretty good…I guess,” said Walker. “I don’t want to say anything wrong. Pretty good, I guess.”

Sounds like someone answering the age-old question: “Do these pants make me look fat?”

Even Dave Rose, Fredette’s college coach, was low key when asked about Fredette’s defense. He noted that in college, Fredette played in a “help defense” scheme. But he added that if a team over-helps in the NBA, “you’re going to get burned.”

“I think he’s very capable, no question,” Rose said. “But the defensive game in the NBA is different. I think he’ll figure it out.”

Doesn’t appear to me that a lot has changed on the Fredette scouting report. Defense is still a concern.
