Sacramento's a cowtown after all

For once, Phil Jackson was right.

Sacramento is a cowtown.

Check out this video of Jimmer Fredette’s reception at the airport last week. (It was also to acknowledge the arrival of the other draft picks, second-rounders Isaiah Thomas and Tyler Honeycutt, which makes it even worse.)

Weird. This wasn’t the arrival of LeBron. It wasn’t even a No. 1 pick. IT WAS THE 10TH PICK!

Salt Lake gets accused of being a cowtown, too, but there wasn’t any crowd at Salt Lake International to greet Enes Kanter and Alec Burks, must less Deron Williams, Karl Malone or any other draft pick. In fairness, maybe the Kings p.r. people put the word out — something the Jazz didn’t do.

Still.

On a side note, on the same flight west from New York with Fredette, Honeycutt and Thomas were Jazz picks Burks and Kanter, as well as the reigning Miss America.

After watching this, I can only wonder what will happen if the Kings get the No. 1 pick next year. Maybe a parade or a a paid city holiday. I hope no one overturns any cop cars and sets them on fire.

I’m going to chalk this up to two things. First, Fredette is the nation’s leading scorer. And second, this is a town desperate to show its support for a team that nearly ended up in Anaheim.
