Kelly sheds little light on Oregon situation
Oregon football coach Chip Kelly has fielded no questions about his NCAA worries until now — and he probably won’t be saying much in the foreseeable future.
Kelly began his remarks at the Pac-12 media day on Tuesday by saying he has “great respect for the NCAA” and what it does, but that he is limited as to what he can say. He said he is anxious to give his side of a story that involves recruiting scout Willie Lyles, who allegedly was paid $25,000 to steer recruits to Oregon.
When a media member asked Kelly if it “concern(s) you at all” that Oregon’s reputation has been shaken by the story, a moderator interrupted, saying the event was to preview the football season, not discuss Oregon’s situation.
The reporter persisted and Kelley did offer an indirect answer, saying “I can’t speak for others (school), but I do know how much we dealt with them (Lyles)” and that Kelly is looking forward to clearing the air, once the details are made pubic.
