BYU and the BCS cut-off

I’m getting a lot of angst from BYU fans about the Cougars not making the super conference cut. I can see where they’re coming from.

They say if there are four such conferences, BYU won’t make the list. It’s a little scary.

Still, if it’s really all about business and money, how can they leave BYU out? The ESPN television deal proved the big network thinks the Cougars can generate viewers.

I figure the BCS will figure out a way to include the Cougars, even if it’s at the expense of someone else. I know they don’t fit into some scenarios, but they seem to fit in the biggest consideration: generating money.

However, I do think this year is interesting. A lot of BCS people will be watching the ratings to see how the Cougars do on ESPN.

Even more interesting to me is Boise State. It is sort of a national darling on TV, but the university itself isn’t up to the big university level. But keeping the Broncos out will be tough, too. It all depends on whether the final formula includes academic status, or simply football success.

What do you think? Is BYU in or out of the mix? What about Boise State?
