Jake Heaps channels Garo Yepremian
If you haven’t seen the video of the 1973 Super Bowl, in which Miami placekicker Garo Yepremian tried to throw a pass, it’s worth taking a look. (Go to 2:33 on the video)
Does it seem slightly familiar?
Maybe that’s because it looks a bit like Saturday’s BYU-Utah game when Cougar quarterback Jake Heaps scooped up a bad snap, drifted into the end zone, and tried to throw an off-balance pass. Same result: TD for the opponent.
If Heaps can take any comfort, it’s that his play is far from the most famous blunder in football history. That would probably go to Yepremian who, by the way, has reportedly made great money on the lecture circuit, talking about the play that made him a household name.
Speaking of turnovers, it appears one restaurant in Utah was amused by the seven mishaps by BYU in Saturday’s game, and thus offered a turnover special.
