Jazz Bear's falling cake was stunt
A few days ago I posted video of a cake slipping out of the Jazz mascot’s hands and landing on people in the lower bowl.
Here’s the rest of the story: It was a stunt.
I didn’t say so when I first posted the video, but I do remember thinking the acting seemed bad. Allen Handy, the guy with the microphone, looked a little too stunned. And the fans who got the cake dumped on their heads appeared a little too happy.
Shortly after I wrote the blog, I got an e-mail suggesting I check the railing where the Bear dropped the cake. Sure enough, there’s a strip of black tape to mark the spot where he was supposed to commit the crime. You can see Bear searching for it.
Egads! Does this mean there are actually OTHER videos on Youtube that are staged?
Imagine that.
I asked a Jazz P.R. person about Bear’s stunt and he said they fielded “a lot of calls on that one,” including ESPN, USA Today and other national news outlets.
Anyway, just in case you missed it, here it is again.
