BYU to Big 12: Make them an offer

While late-season scheduling has been an issue for BYU ever since going independent, bowl access seemed to be a bigger topic at BYU’s football media day on Monday.

So the Cougars say they’ll be ready should a conference invitation arise.

Athletics director Tom Holmoe said, “Right now we feel we’re in the best position we can be in. Three years ago, when we went independent, we weren’t looking at some of the changes that took place, but we are having to adapt to those.”

He went on to say that big bowl visibility is a major factor in recruiting.

“Bronco (Mendenhall) and I have talked frequently about the bowls we’re in and where we aspire to go, and recruiting is a big part of it. A lot of it has to do with your plan. Right now the most important thing for us is to play great football and improve the BYU Cougar plan. If we continue do that, we’re going to be in the right position at the right time.”

In other words, make them an offer.
